Celtic tumbled out of Europe despite a good performance in Denmark. Celtic bossed the game and made several decent chances, with both Samaras and Nakamura passing up good chances to take the lead. Boruc was forced to make a good save from a header but had little else to do as Celtic dominated the possession.
Aalborg started better in the second half but Celtic should have had a penalty when McDonald was brought down by the goalkeeper. However, they took the lead after 53 minutes when Robson headed home a Wilson cross. Caldwell had a couple of chances as Celtic pushed for the second but Aalborg grabbed the equaliser after 73 minutes when a deflection off McManus looped over Boruc. Celtic pushed for the winner but Aalborg grabbed it after 87 minutes when a Loovens clearance hit Caldwell and went in the net. Celtic pushed for the equaliser but it wasn't to be and it was a cruel end to a game that Celtic should have won comfortably.
